New Home Owner Grant Application Process Effective 2021

The Home Owner grant is available to eligible homeowners who pay property taxes.

Effective February 16, 2021, homeowners in municipalities no longer apply for the home owner grant through their municipal office.  Everyone now applies directly to the province using a new online system that's easy to use.

Although the application process has changed, program details and eligibility requirements have not changed.

The new system helps ensure homeowners receive their full grant entitlement, including the additional grant for seniors or persons with a disability.  It also helps process applications faster and reduce fraudulent applications.

Please note:

  • The Province will start to accept current year and retroactive grants online starting February 16, 2021
  • The call centre and ServiceBC staff will also accept applications on February 16, 2021
  • Note that while a homeowner can apply for their current year grant, the application will not be processed until taxes are levied in May; they will remain in a hold status
  • Homeowners can subscribe to receive updates at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or call toll free:  1-888-355-2700 to speak with an agent.

Important:  Early applications are not being accepted at this time.  To be notified when the system goes live, subscribe to our What's New in BC Property Taxes page.
